SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

The DUC School of Business offers a comprehensive four-year programme leading to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). The BBA programme covers four different areas of specialisation namely accounting, banking & finance, marketing and human resource management.

The School of Business is a leading teaching and research focused business school offering programmes that stimulate an attitude of thoughtfulness, ambition and visionary-mindedness among students as far as business values and sound practices are concerned. Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting)

The rapid changes in social and economic activity have exposed accounting to criticism for failing to be more responsive and adaptable. The BBA Accounting specialization is a degree designed to offer students a unique and innovative industry experience to become responsive and adaptable to changing trends.
The degree is highly focused, with a specialist emphasis on accounting although students get firm grounding in economics, organizational behavior, quantitative methods, and law. This degree will be beneficial for those pursuing a career within accountancy profession, including those working with the skills of financial analysis and management, or in tax, insurance, investments or banking.

Goal & Objectives:

To produce skilled persons in the field of business administration for employment in both public and private sectors of the economy, and other organisations where such skills and disciplines are required.
Students are therefore exposed to courses that will equip them with the knowledge, understanding and skills for employing reflective and objective critical thinking in their fields of endeavor in order to contribute meaningfully in creating value for organisations, and become citizens capable of functioning in a highly complex, interdependent global society.

Students will gain practical knowledge, understanding and analytical skills in the core areas of accounting, economics, finance, research and forecasting. They will also acquire critical thinking in their reading, researching, writing, reporting and speaking, analysis and application of theories and practices of sound business traditions and principles as well as skills in numeracy. They will also acquire IT, communications and problem solving, and the importance of the life-long pursuit of truth, acceptance of individual responsibility which will prepare students for higher research, academic and professional pursuits.

Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing)

The BBA in marketing programme at Dominion’s School of Business is specifically designed to assist students to acquire effective and efficient skills that will make them effective marketing professionals. It helps students to understand, conceptualise, analyse and resolve marketing problems.

The BBA in Marketing focuses on all the aspects of business administration, which includes accounting, human resources, marketing, information systems, finance and international business. By focusing on both business and consumer needs, this degree offers an effective approach to the theory and practice of marketing management and provides students with the opportunities to get real business experience before graduating.

The Dominion’s School of Business offers a 4-year degree programme leading to Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Human Resources Management. This degree focuses on the tasks of managing organisation’s human capital as the key factor for competitive advantage in our fast-paced knowledge economy. The programme covers general management theory, marketing and business decision-making.

In this program, students gain a solid foundation in functional and strategic HR Management professional practice, with an emphasis on leadership, particularly the strategic role HR practitioners’ play in leading and influencing organizational change. The public sector is increasingly becoming dynamic in contemporary economy, and critical to public expenditure management.

The program at DUC is designed to cover areas of public budgeting, accounting and financial control and reporting, public sector accounting and the legal framework regulating public sector management. It aims at enabling students to develop a logical framework for understanding the principles of accounting pertaining in the public sector management. It also seeks to improve the quality of general purpose of public sector financial reporting by governmental agencies, improved assessments and decision making towards the allocation public resource, and increasing transparency and accountability.
